Tour Down Under

We took a day off to watch stage 4 of the Tour Down Under (TDU). 143km from Adelaide to Angaston. It was 28 degrees today, and we had a lovely trip to Springton (59km from start) and had the opportunity to see the bunch of 3 riders that by then had an 8:30 lead on the peleton. After that, we drove to Angaston, to see the finish. By then the peleton had caught up the break-away group, and it was a good sprint to the end. We managed to get a couple of pics of cycling legend Lance Armstrong, so thought that we would post these. We are planning to take part in riding a stage next year (non-pro of course!). All in all, it was a lovely day out, and here are a few pics...

It was funny to see the kangaroo on the car - this is the 'logo' for the TDU

Leonie took this pic - it is at Springton where the peleton was 8:30 behind the leaders. Lance is at the back

This is the sprint to the end...150m to go!

Leonie managed to get this great picture of Lance - nice new bike huh? The numbers on it represent a couple of interesting facts:

  • 1274 - number of days since Lance last raced professionally
  • 27.5 - the number (in millions) of people who have died from cancer since then

Wayne managed to get this shot of Lance using a bigger lens. Lance is only 39 seconds behind the leader at the end of stage 4

It was nice to be able to see all the cyclists, as well as take in the lovely sights of the Barossa valley. It will look nice in winter after the rain. Miss you all, and catch-up soon!
