End of heat wave!
Hello everyone, we are glad that temperatures have dropped below 30 degrees! We just experienced 15 days over 35 degrees, including one day reaching 41.5 degrees
We went to Gorge Wildlife park yesterday where Leonie hugged a Koala. We also managed to feed the kangaroos, see a couple alligators, pelicans and monkeys. It's been tough in the ministry with the heat, but we both are on course to make the hours.
We had a good response with the memorial invitations, and enjoyed the discourse as always.
Here are a few pics from the wildlife park:
Sunset on the beach
Leonie surprised me today and took me to the beach when I got back from work. Here are some pictures of the sunset...
Some people never grow up, do they?
And here are some birds...
In Australia, there are so many beautiful varieties of birds. We often hear them when we walk around the area (especially lorikeets, magpies, galahs , and cockatiels). These are some of the different ones that Leonie snapped in our fig tree last week
We have bought a book of Australian birds to help us identify the different types, as there are so many.
This is a rainbow lorikeet - they like to congregate and make lots of noise! (metallic screeching) They also like to eat fruit and breeds from August to January. They nest in hollow trees
This is a common starling which was introduced to Victoria in the mid-19th century. It has been declared a pest in Western Australia and South Australia. It feeds on fruit and insects
This is another view of the rainbow lorikeet
These are the galahs. The male and female are alike apart from the colour of their eyes. These parrots are found in all types of open country, and eat something of everything!
Spiders galore
We thought that you might like to see some of the spiders that we have around our garden. We have spotted the huntsman, redback and wolf spiders so far. Here are some pics of the ones that we bumped into...
this is a huntsman
this is a wolf spider
this should give you an idea of the size
see it half way down on the right (in the shade)?
Photos of our house in Adelaide
Hi all,
It's been a while since we last updated our blog, so we thought that we had better post some pics of the house we are staying in. You will notice that the grass as not as green as in the UK. This is due to there not being much rain, and there are also water restrictions in place.
We are really enjoying life here in Adelaide, and have made a lot of new friends. There are some days when it gets quite hot, and they do seem to drain the energy from you. Still, everyone is happy and pleased each time we see them.
The dogs have settled in really well, and Shadow has picked up a new habit - sun tanning! She will lie in the sun for hours on her back. Max prefers the cooler spots.
Work wise, Wayne has been with the company for 3 months, and is now half way through the probation period. Leonie is continuing in the ministry (sharing Bible truths from house to house). During March, both of us are doing regular auxiliary pioneering (which means we both go from house to house sharing Bible truths about God's Kingdom).
As some of you may know, we swapped transport, and so Wayne now uses the Scooter to go to work and back. It costs us less than $10 per week, and because parking at work is limited, the scooter is ideal.
We miss everyone, and hope that you are all doing well.
More updates to come soon.
